Say hello to Voicebeep on the iPhone

Wow, we are super excited about bringing you the Voicebeep iPhone application.

The iPhone app is not available yet from the App Store, but it is available for a small number of beta testers. If you would like to send voicebeeps on-the-go and be one of our beta testers, send your iPhone UDID and contact info to sayhello@voicebeep.com.

If you do not have your UDID handy, there is an App called UDID available here that helps you easily send the UDID to an email address.

No-text Law Goes Into Effect January 1, 2009

Starting January 1, 2009 a new law will go into effect where writing, sending, or reading a text-based communication while driving will be against the law for all drivers in California.

Violating this law is punishable by a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense. With the addition of penalty assessments, fines can be more than triple the base fine amount.   DMV CA Notice

Swift beeps

You may have noticed that the length of a voicebeep is now 21 seconds.

We are using voicebeeps on a daily basis and we love the swift beeps. When you try to be concise, 21 seconds can be a little eternity: 21 seconds is about 50 words (most people talk at about 150 words per minute), it is the average length of an email and about twice as long as a twitter post. It is sufficient time to sketch an idea, but short enough to not be draggy. And with a 21 second voicebeep you can share your brilliant idea with all your friends or co-workers.

We also have a “21+” extra time button.  It gives you 3 full minutes to explain an idea, or to get something off your chest.

Rooms

Were you smiling the last time you listened to a voicebeep?  Do you wish there would be an easier way to play an earlier message from that person? We just introduced rooms: click the link in the menu bar and it opens a list of people you have been having conversations with. When you enter the room, the person’s messages will play automatically.

Patent Pending

We are excited about Voicebeep and the times to come. For the last few months, we have been pondering on where to take personal voice communication next: how to best connect you, your ideas and your life with others in a fun and easy way. A few days ago, we put the final touches on our provisional patent and look forward to bringing all the cool features to a voicebeep near you.

We wanted a better way to share stories, plan events, exchange ideas and simply keep in touch with the people in our lives. With hectic schedules, emails are nice…they can be sent late at night or between work sessions. But emails take time to write and can be impersonal. We wanted a solution that was both convenient and more fun. The answer, we realized, had been whispering in our ears all along from behind the prison bars of answering machines, voice prompts and area codes: voice messages.

Since we prefer solutions that make life easier (and we guess you do too), our website doesn’t require you to register or remember any passwords. At voicebeep.com, it’s just you, your voice, and your people.

In the past, a voice message was something that only happened after an attempt to speak to someone failed. No product provided a universally accessible way to send voice messages to anyone at anytime…until now.

We are proud to liberate the voice message by giving you Voicebeep.

What is Voicebeep?

Voicebeep is a web application to send voice messages to anyone. All you need is an email address, a microphone and an internet connection. Recipients are notified by email when they receive a voice message and can listen to it on the internet.
